Mmmm, while I do believe having a very “plot-driven” story is an advantage, it wouldn’t have hurt to have had a couple chapters take a sideline & develop the characters/dynamics more.

I have a stomachs for nearly all things literature & storytelling, but I’ve never been particularly fond of system trope & Ive never put in the time to develop my understanding of of “cultivation” tropes & the stuff related.

Despite all of this, you’ve kept me interested far more & for far longer than any other novel with such a trope(with my taste being as developed as it is now of course).

This feat truly attests to your dialogue & character dynamics, along with story elements.

Well, I always saw the initial chapters as an extended prologue. It is a kind of microcosm/panorama of the novel: mob battles, boss battle, team-oriented combat, solo combat, tone, jokes, character introduction, character personality ('crazy' side), writing style. In a way it is a tutorial for reading the novel as well as a tutorial for the characters.

If you've ever played a Bethesda game, I think it kind of like the opening to those games: leaving the vault, escaping jail, etc. You get this relatively confined space and then open up to the larger world.

Can't say such a method is good or that I succeeded, lol.
